A popular CD since its launch at the 2004 National Eisteddfod in Newport, Meddal is a collection of specially selected Welsh and bi-lingual open source software.  It is available from all good Welsh book shops or the Meddal online shop for £5-6 each.

Also on the CD are :
  • Welsh OpenOffice.org - Welsh translation of the user interface in the open source office productivity suite by Sun Microsystems that is able to open and edit Microsoft Office files (i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access) but does not cost £400.

  • English OpenOffice.org - the original English version with an English spell checker aleady built in. It is possible to install the English and Welsh OpenOffice version side by side onto your computer - useful if you're a learner or if the computer is shared by English and Welsh speakers.

  • Welsh spell checker for OpenOffice.org and Gwe-lywiwr Mozilla. The spell checker development was sponsored by the Welsh Language Board and conducted by Canolfan Bedwyr, University of Wales, Bangor.

  • To Bach - a useful program by Draig Technology, Bangor  for typing Welsh accented characters.

  • GNU/Linux Live CD System  so that you may play with all the software before installing any onto your computer. Based on Knoppix 3.4 and Gnome 2.6.
